Couples Therapy (online and in Athens, Ohio)

Connection, communication, conflict, trust, shared direction, and how you move together

Common areas we work on

We keep having the same conversation and it goes nowhere

One of us wants connection; the other shuts down

Are we repairing or just circling–are we actually getting anywhere?

What therapy feels like

Sessions are collaborative and focused on intentional relating and communication.

  • Slow down conversations so each person can be heard
  • Reduce reactivity and repetition
  • Clarify what’s happening between you
  • Support more direct, workable communication
  • Reestablish trust, curiosity, and empathy

My approach

My strong belief is that couples therapy at its best is compassionate, strategic and mediation-informed, and avoid jargon and diagnostic labels. I have training in Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT for couples and individuals), and Mediation/Non-Violent Communication.

What is Gottman Method?

The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to relationships, grounded in over 40 years of evidence. It was developed by John Gottman and Julie Schwartz Gottman. It is based on decades of research studying how couples interact and what predicts relationship success or breakdown.

What is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)?

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based approach that helps people understand and reshape the emotional patterns that drive their relationships. Developed by Sue Johnson, it focuses on strengthening emotional bonds and creating more secure, responsive connections.

What is Mediation-informed Therapy?

I welcome all kinds of couples and partnerships — living together, committed, married, LGBTQIA+. Pre-marital counseling also available.
